Hellos. My name is David Yang. I am an Asian Hmong-American, born to this native land in the small town of Rio, Wisconsin. I am a LINUX enthusiast, a programmer, a hacker, Anime watcher and Manga reader, and a Sci fi lover. I also play tabletop role-playing games (TTRPG for short), primarily dungeon & dragons 5th edition. I dabble in photography and imagery. I’ve coded since I was a wee 12-year-old when I was introduced to Apple ][e, ProDOS, and BBSs (internet technically was not public yet). My focus on technology grew when my sister gave me my first Microsoft Windows 3.1 powered Packard Bell 80386sx 33mhz (with 66mhz TURBO). From there in and with a 2400 baud dial-up modem, I fell in love with.. rock and roll, and the internet.
WHAT’S NEW WITH ME
I’ve left my job of 20 years as a Printer, Prepress operator, to pursue my past goals of being a technician. I will be learning how to repair printers (laser) and service them for the Sheboygan region 😉
I’ve dabbled with Linux since the era of Slackware Linux and used it for many years. I’ve moved on to different distros as well as using Microsoft, Apple, and Android operating systems.
I am a dungeon master (DM or also known as a game master, GM) and have been running dungeon and dragon 5th edition games since its inception in 2012. I’ve created my own world for my players and it has worked quite well. I also am a player when there is a DM around and have played D&D since AD&D 2nd edition. Besides D&D, I’m also a Keeper/GM for Call of Cthulhu, and LotRP.
I love to read. My focus tends to be on Fantasy and Folklore, but I’ve read mysteries, thrillers, and even romance novels. Fell in love with Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman’s Dragonlance Novels, Tolkien, Piers Anthony, Bob Salvatore’s Drizzt Novels, Ed Greenwood’s books on Elminster, and many more.
Thanks to Matt Colville, I created the great chaotic world of Lortham. I’ve also started dabbling in writing, but this book may never come to fruition as writers’ block is a serious thing. Maybe I’ll post excerpts. We’ll see.
Internet and Gaming
My first gaming system was a Nintendo Entertainment System 3 years after its release. The latest system I had was a Sony PS3. I now play most games with a laptop. I enjoy watching Youtubers, Twitch streamers, and Facebook gamers. I myself play some games, but I tend not to anymore – I think age has gotten to me, maybe. But then you may find me in Warzone 2.0, or chatting during the Critical Role twitch streams on Thursdays, or maybe even lurking on IRC…
